Campus

Physical and/or virtual collection of services that provides the learning and support that a student requires to meet the learning outcomes in a program.

We note that there is a difference in the traditional definition of a campus. ANMAC need to record the places of learning to accommodate understanding of student numbers and allocation of fees.

  • knowing how to learn

  • being creative
  • having a high degree of self-efficacy
  • applying competencies to both novel and familiar situations.

Clinical placement / Professional experience placement

Component of nursing/midwifery education that allows students to put theoretical knowledge into practice within the consumer care environment. It includes, but is not limited to, the hospital setting, and may include general practice, remote and rural health clinics, and community care environments. It excludes simulation.

Clinical placement also known as work-integrated learning (WIL), work- based learning, professional experience placement (PEP), professional placement, professional experience, work placement, midwifery practice experience (MPE), clinical experience, clinical attachments, practice placements, clinical internship, clinical rotation, clinical observation or experiential learning.

Clinical placement supervisor

A person who supervises students during their clinical or professional experience placement. 

Also known as work-integrated learning supervisor, clinical placement supervisor, preceptor, supervisor, work placement supervisor, professional experience placement supervisor, midwifery professional experience supervisor, professional placement supervisor, clinical instructor, mentor, practice educator, clinical educator or demonstrator.

Collaboration

All members of the health care team working in partnership with consumers and each other to facilitate access to the highest standard of health care. Collaborative relationships depend on mutual respect. Successful collaboration depends on communication, consultation and joint decision making within a risk management framework, to enable appropriate referral and to ensure effective, efficient and safe health care.

Where health professionals work as an effective team, optimising individual skills and talents and sharing case management to reach the highest of patient care standards.

Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS)

The official Australian Government website that lists all Australian education providers that offer courses to people studying in Australia on student visas and the courses offered. Only these providers can enrol overseas students or issue AQF qualifications and statements of attainment to them.

Complex needs (midwifery)

Women requiring care beyond what would be considered routine or normal by the health service. Refers to the application of care principles for a range of experiences including maternity emergencies and recognising and responding to clinical deterioration in women with complex needs. This is inclusive of situations where women may be experiencing risks to social and psychological wellbeing, mental health or requiring medical or surgical care.

It refers to the application of care principles for a range of experiences including emergencies and recognising and responding to clinical deterioration. This is inclusive of risk to social and psychological wellbeing, mental health or requiring medical or surgical care.
