PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
Before enrolling in a nursing or midwifery education program, it is important for prospective students to verify if the program is listed on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia’s (NMBA) Approved Program of Study list . Completion of a program not included on this list may disqualify graduates from registering as nurses or midwives in Australia.
ANMAC undertake assessments, against NMBA approved accreditation standards, of:
- Applications from education providers seeking accreditation of a program of study
- Changes to approved programs of study reported by education providers.
ANMAC monitors:
- All NMBA approved programs on the ‘Approved Programs of Study’ list
- All NMBA approved programs that have expired and are in the process of completing arrangements for teach out or transition to a newly accredited program.
ANMAC develops, reviews, and publishes accreditation standards for entry-to-practice nursing and midwifery programs of study once approved by the NMBA.
ANMAC Accreditation Services team is responsible for assessing:
- Entry-to-practice nursing and midwifery programs that lead to eligibility for registration or endorsement with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA), including programs for enrolled nurses, registered nurses, midwives, endorsed midwives, and nurse practitioners.
- The education providers offering these programs.
ANMAC is a separate organisation to the NMBA.
ANMAC does not:
- Register nurses and midwives; this function is the responsibility of the NMBA.
- Set professional standards, such as standards for practice or registration standards; this function is also the responsibility of the NMBA.
The Accreditation Services processes are detailed in the Accreditation Policy and Procedure Document. (905KB).
