What you need to do to integrate new NMBA standards for practice into your approved program of
study.

Introduction
The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) has its own set of professional standards for practice (these used to be known as competency standards).
The NMBA standards are designed to:
- reflect contemporary nursing and midwifery practice
- keep the Australian public safe
The NMBA standards are regularly updated. When this happens, both ANMAC standards and NMBA-approved programs of study must be aligned to the new NMBA standards. This will involve updating your programs' policies, procedures and materials as the standards come into effect. You must also show us evidence of this integration work in your annual Program Monitoring Report.
What you need to do
You must remove any references to the old standards from all program materials.
You must also integrate the new standards into your program's:
- policies, procedures, processes and practices
- curriculum document
- subject outlines, assessments, learning and graduate outcomes
- assessment tools
Other tasks you may have to undertake to integrate the new standards may include:
- preparing all teaching staff to apply the new standards
- updating program content to include any new terminology and concepts
- integrating wording and concepts from the new standards into all program materials, and across all teaching locations.
Depending on how much work needs to be done to integrate the new standards, we may just ask for a declaration that the program has been updated. Or, we may ask you to provide evidence that the changes have been made. We may charge a fee for our assessment of this evidence.
