If you require ANMAC to assess your work experience, you must upload a Professional Reference Letter for each period of employment.

A Professional Reference Letter is a written statement issued by your employer, confirming your employment on an official letterhead. The official letterhead should include the organisation's full address details, telephone, email and website addresses. The letter must be composed and signed by your direct manager or supervisor.

All professional reference letters must include:

Professional references are not:

If the document is in another language, we require both the original and a translated version in English by a NAATI certified translator.

  • You will need to submit a professional reference for at least 3 months paid work experience within the last 5 years
  • Your work experience documents need to include examples of your daily work that show you have the skills to match your ANZSCO code.

Any nursing or midwifery work experience older than 5 years can only be assessed under the ANZSCO code 254499 NEC (Not Elsewhere Classified).

If you have a migration agent or are an agent, fill in the Agent Declaration Form (146KB) and include the form in the assessment application.

ANZSCO Codes Information

ANZSCO Codes

You need to include an ANZSCO code when you complete your application in the Skilled Migrant Application Portal.

This code will decide which area of nursing or midwifery you can use when applying for your visa. The code you select will need to match your work experience.

Understanding ANZSCO Codes

If you're not sure which ANZSCO code to choose, please contact the Department of Home Affairs or a registered Migration Agent.

You can:

  • pick a code that is supported by your work experience
  • pick a general code if you do not have work experience.

You can not:

  • pick a code that does not match your work experience
  • pick a code because you want to work in a specific area
  • pick a code only because it supports your visa application.

If You Have Work Experience

Nominate a specific ANZSCO code, and provide professional reference documents that show:

  • 3 months and 260 hours (or more) of paid work experience (within the last 5 years) that matches your code
  • accurate information about your clinical skills and competencies in your area of work.

After you select your code and upload supporting professional references in the Skilled Migrant Application portal we will:

  • check your references and work experience and make sure it matches the code you nominated
  • include an ANZSCO code that matches your education and work experience on your Outcome Letter

Note: Choosing a code which does not match your experience will delay your assessment because we will require more information from you.
