National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to reflect on our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how we can each contribute to reconciliation.

The dates commemorate two significant milestones, the 1967 Referendum and the 1992 Mabo decision and remind us that reconciliation is not a one-off moment, but a collective journey of truth-telling, healing and meaningful action.

This year’s theme, Bridging Now to Next, speaks to the importance of honouring the past while shaping a future built on respect, equity and justice.

At ANMAC, reconciliation is central to our work. Through the accreditation of nursing, midwifery and healthcare programs, and our assessment of internationally qualified practitioners, we are committed to supporting a culturally safe, skilled, and responsive health workforce.

We recognise the critical role that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health professionals, communities and knowledges play in shaping healthcare that serves all Australians. Our work must reflect this, not just in principle, but in practice.

Reconciliation must live in our hearts, minds and everyday actions. This week and beyond, we reaffirm our commitment to walking alongside First Nations peoples in building a stronger, fairer health system for the future.
