The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) serves as the National Accreditation Authority for Nursing and Midwifery education providers and as an independent assessing authority for skilled migrants.

As the government-approved Nursing and Midwifery accreditation entity and assessing authority, ANMAC is driven by its vision and values, with governance at the core of its operations.

ANMAC has three main functions:

  1. Accreditation of nursing and midwifery study programs.
  2. Migration skills assessments for the General Skilled Migration program.
  3. Engaging with stakeholders in the nursing and midwifery community.

ANMAC serves as the external accreditation body for the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia NMBA. These services are provided under an agreement with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra).

The functions of ANMAC are detailed in the National Law, which serves as the legislative instrument for Australia’s National Registration and Accreditation Scheme. As an independent entity, ANMAC operated separately from the NMBA and Ahpra.

Accreditation Services Team:

  • Develops accreditation standards for approval by the National Board.
  • Assesses nursing and midwifery study programs and education providers.
  • Makes recommendations to the National Board regarding nursing and midwifery education and accreditation matters.

ANMAC conducts skills assessments for potential migrants to ensure they meet Australia's nursing and midwifery standards. These assessments provide crucial information to the Department of Home Affairs regarding the skills of visa applicants under the Skilled Migration program.

As an independent assessing entity, ANMAC operates separately from the Department of Home Affairs and the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.

Skilled Migration Services Team

  • Assess the skills of migrants applying for visas through the General Skilled Migration program.
  • Assess qualified nurses and midwives from overseas seeking to work in Australia.
  • Provide advisory services to relevant organisations on skilled migration issues related to nurses and midwives.

Our authority to conduct skills assessments is subject to ongoing review, in accordance with the Guidelines for Skilled Migration Assessing Authorities. The scope of our assessments aligns with legislative instruments governing nursing and midwifery.

ANMAC actively participates in the nursing and midwifery community, fostering connections with diverse stakeholders to enhance healthcare outcomes for all Australians. Our engagement initiatives ensure we remain responsive to evolving stakeholder needs.

Aligned with our stakeholder framework, our engagement activities aim to enhance community impact. We regularly meet with:

  • Community and consumer representatives
  • Education providers
